Total passion
R 18 Spirit of Passion by Kingston Custom

"This won’t be just any old, stunning PR bike. It will be one with a soul, a spirit.” In just a few words Dirk Oehlerking makes clear what he – and his modified R 18 – stand for. Kingston Custom bikes are always something very special. They have names such as White Phantom or Good Ghost. And that’s not the only reason they put the fear of God into some and make the hair on enthusiasts’ necks stand on end. Even Dirk himself is gripped by total passion each time he does as much as think about his projects. However, there was something else involved in the R 18 “mega project”: a responsibility like never before.

Nordic Style
The R 18 Modified By Unique Custom Cycles

From the start, this bike may look like a super advanced build, but the frame is untouched, the gas tank is the same as is the engine. This is the result of an inspired craftsman’s work, good tools and a new BMW R 18 that got some affection and pride.

Made for the city

40 years of adventure
Four decades of GS

Ready for any challenge: Since 1980, the GS has stood for limitless adventure and curiosity, both on and off the road. 40 years ago, we presented the R 80 G/S for the first time as the conceptual pioneer of touring enduros, which laid the foundation for a decades-long success story. We are celebrating this anniversary with the special editions of our versatile GS models. The 40 Years GS editions are each a homage to the #SpiritOfGS. They boast state-of-the-art technology, but their design is inspired by the legendary R 100 GS and reminds us of the origins of the GS.

Defined strength in a straight line
The R 18 Dragster by Roland Sands Design

Roland Sands is known for his daring designs with sports racing influences. He combines styles and knows no limits. When modifying the R 18, he draws inspiration from his father’s drag racing days: He reduces the mighty cruiser to the essentials and gears it up for maximum speed on straight roads. The result is a straight-line dragster with an iconic boxer engine – the R 18 Dragster.

With the Concept Link, which BMW Motorrad will be unveiling at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017, a concept vehicle has now set about to combine the challenges of urban mobility of tomorrow with the opportunities of a digitalised world.

Customised
Totally unique bikes and their creators.

They're mechanics, style enthusiasts, and individualists. Each one of their bikes is a work of art unto itself. Customisers experiment with colours, shapes and materials to create one-of-a-kind motorcycles. The distinctive touches they put on the R nineT will thrill any custom bike enthusiast. On the following pages we'll show you some of these custom bikes and tell the story of how they were created.

Elegant muscleman.
BMW Motorrad presents the Concept 101 touring bike.

Inspired by the never-ending highway, the feeling of freedom and sheer independence, the BMW Motorrad design team came up with a completely new approach to touring motorcycles with their Concept 101: elegant, exclusive, extroverted and pure cruising power.

Roaring engines in a picture-book Alpine setting.
This year marks the 15th year of BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

For the past 15 years, thousands of bikers from around the world have been flocking to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the foothills of the Wetterstein mountains. BMW Motorrad Days, the motorcycle event of the year, has been taking place here for the past 15 years.

Garmisch Partenkirchen sits like a story-book town at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. Countless trails take hikers up to nearby peaks and beyond to ice-cold Alpine lakes. Once a year, this idyllic setting is a magnet for thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts. A festival atmosphere takes over in Garmisch-Partenkirchen during the event. The locals celebrate together with bikers, who come to BMW Motorrad Days from literally every corner of the earth.

Crafting a feeling.
The BMW Motorrad design process.

Striking characters work in the BMW Motorrad design team. Every designer has their own style and feels at home in their own biker scene. And each and every one of them adds their own inspiration and passion. These different forms are then combined in the design process: they are manifested in each new BMW Motorrad creation. Edgar Heinrich, head designer at BMW Motorrad, introduces the BMW Motorrad design team and the design process.

Riding on air.
BMW Motorrad and LEGO Technic build the Hover Ride concept model.

Pushing boundaries has always been a part of BMW Motorrad. The future of mobility is full of surprises – as can be seen from the floating boxer. A construction kit was the start.

Safety 360°.
Safety requires action. Not words.

To really enjoy the road, you have to be carefree. And on a motorcycle. At BMW Motorrad, we're always working on new solutions that let you focus your eyes and your mind on what's most important: a carefree and fun motorcycling experience.

R 90 CAFÉ RACER.
A Nordic soul and his special motorcycle from Alaska.

The growing trend of restoring BMW motorcycles is sweeping the world. In Alaska, a genuine R 90 Café Racer recently attracted our attention. We wanted to find out more about owner Erik Christensen and his astonishing Boxer named 'Catalyst'. A bike he built to inspire kindred spirits.

Treasure-hunting in a garage.
Sebastian Gutsch and the fascination of classic motorcycles.

Sebastian Gutsch has been restoring old BMW motorcycles for decades. His bikes are more than just good-looking. The lawyer from Munich also rides his creations at vintage bike races and was one of the first to ride the R 5 Hommage at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the elegance competition for classic cars. After all, the original engine installed in the bike comes from his own collection. Just one of the many rare finds and stories from his garage.

Testride.
Riding enjoyment without limits.

Holiday. Motorcycle. Curves. There is no better combination. This is precisely what BMW Motorrad combines in the testride centres. And it does so in the heart of the most beautiful and exciting touring areas in the alpine region. Testride centres are selected partner hotels that fulfil all the requirements for motorcyclists – lockable parking, service, maintenance and of course a great deal of riding enjoyment.

Travel.
Simply on the move – worldwide.

Each adventure requires a courageous individual to get it underway – and a companion to accompany it.
