Ready for the riding enjoyment of tomorrow.
When we think about the future of motorcycling, it's not just about impressive innovations. It's about sustainability. It's not a temporary fashion, but a topic which has had an influence since the 16th century: a forest can only be felled as long as it is there. A truth of timeless validity. Sustainability stands for long-term thought and responsible actions with respect to the generations to come. It rests on three pillars: economic, ecological and social. This is why the actions of BMW Motorrad are based on these three pillars as well.
A sustainable economy is above all rather smart. As highlighted by Norbert Reithofer, CEO of the BMW Group: "Premium is defined in terms of sustainability." As a corporate target of BMW Motorrad, it stands for long-term economic success.
And yet as soon as it comes to the sustainable cultivation of resources, nature is the focal point. For BMW Motorrad as a vehicle manufacturer, this is self-evident. Numerous measures serve to place the economic pillars of sustainability on a viable foundation.
Environmental protection is permanently connected to BMW Motorrad. Alongside efficiency, it affects the entire value creation chain. It starts with value preservation: the vast majority of motorcycles from the past thirty years are still on the roads today. Added to this is environmentally friendly manufacturing, for instance water-based paints. In addition, the machines are designed in such a way so that operating fluids can be easily removed without leaving any residues during recycling.
Up to 95 percent of a vehicle can be recycled. But above all, the BMW Motorrad manufacturing and research facilities are highly efficient when it comes to clean production. In this vein, the research and innovation centre in Munich has a highly-efficient CHP system with an efficiency of over 80 percent. Even the engine test benches reuse escaping heat and braking energy and win back energy. This way, the BMW Group saves around 3,500 tonnes of CO2 each year.
As employees, customers or neighbours – people are the top priority for BMW Motorrad. This is why they are also the focal point of all corporate activity. Thanks to a sustainable HR policy, BMW Motorrad establishes long-term relationships with its employees as much as possible. It's about fostering them, challenging them and engaging them. And yet still providing scope for individuals to develop freely. Flexible work models ensure a healthy work-life balance.
Long-standing employees use their expertise to implement BMW Motorrad innovations and quality requirements in the best possible way. In so doing, they create a result which excites customers and strengthens the company in the long term. This way, each and every employee and thus BMW Motorrad acts out the sustainability concept. Every day. And all over the world.
